Sonic Weekends are a series of residential recordings hosted and developed by the independent music imprint White Label Music (WLM/DPRK). These sessions are staged once or twice a year at various compass points in The UK and mainland Europe.
The idea is to take a group of approx 30 persons (including crew), a recording studio, an engineer/producer and record an album of improvised music based on a theme in a designated time period. The duration of the recordings depends on location and travel time but varies between 3-7 days.
WLM provide the arena to record an album in an unusual space in a beautiful location, the rest as they say is up to the musicians! These events are paid for by the artists themselves and the recordings they produce are placed on itunes by WLM/DPRK and collectively owned by those taking part. We have just completed our 8th Sonic Weekend in France, a huge success!
